How will the 2011 F1 Grid Look?
Kimi Raikonnen, the 2007 F1 champion has denied rumors that he is set for an F1 comeback in 2011. The Renault team had been making noises that the flying Finn, nicknamed ‘The Iceman’ was considering the slot that is likely to be created when Renault say goodbye to ex Lada racer, Vitaly Petrov. Kimi denied these claims full stop, saying that Renault were simply exercising a Marketing strategy. At present it is unclear if this story holds any weight, but either way, Renault have generated some valuable publicity.
The big three teams of the moment certainly look set to keep a firm grip on their driver line ups , the top six drivers in the championship having all impressed at various points throughout the season with their respective sterling drives. Red Bull have a very strong, if erratic and sometimes troubled line up, Webber and Vettel have certainly had their differences this year, not least after the Turkish Grandprix when the pair took each other out of the race. Vettel is still young however, so much so that he probably still has his 18th birthday gifts in his room. McLaren look rock solid with very different drivers, who both have personalized gifts for navigating a track at breakneck speeds, meaning the one will usually excel while the other struggles. Ferrari are happy with their new Spanish talisman although Massa has underperformed this season.
Further down the order, the Mercedes team who have failed to live up to expectations could possibly replace Schummi who appears to be all at sea with the new tire rules. In fact Schummi has fallen from grace so much that Mercedes F1 branded merchandise would certainly not make good gifts for her if your girlfriend happens to be an F1 fanatic. This could leave a vacant seat at Mercedes should Kimi wish to be reunited with Norbert Haug, Force India may also be an option if Liutzi is jettisoned. It’s highly unlikely that Raikonnen would opt to drive for a lowly back marker team, but stranger things have happened. The iceman is not particularly liked in F1 circles for his personality but when he is on song in the car he is a joy to behold.
