New Born Baby Photography

Photography is an art and a photographer is no less than an artist. Capturing stills of our world and adding perspective by drawing attention to those aspects of life we often tend to ignore is nothing short of a form of great art. Some of these instances of brilliance include good maternity photography, newborn photographyand creative photography in general. Whether the purpose is to preserve memories of the past for the future, or just to create a piece of art is not what matters. Photographing a new born baby is one of the most creatively challenging tasks. While babies look very good with whatever they do, but for a photographer, to capture something more than that, and delve deeper into the moment visually, is what can bear excellent results.

Newborn photography is difficult partly because the new-borns do not generally pose, they have to be posed. Now there are a million different possibilities and as a photographer, it is one’s job to understand what would look best with a particular child and its feel. A lot of it includes trial and error, but it is important to realise that every pose looks different, even in a constant context, and gives a different feel to the picture.

The best way, perhaps, to go about capturing a new-born baby is by shooting indiscriminately. This allows a lot of scope to capture the baby’s in their natural state, particularly when they are not sleeping, as that is what they do most of the time. Newborn photographyalso includes some practical requirements such as to get to know the mother. As long as the baby’s mom is not your friend, it is going to be difficult to get the best out of the baby. Patience, here, is the virtue too, as babies require their own time, and it needs to be given to them.

Speaking of practical difficulties, one has to put a lot of thought into a newborn photography sessionabout difficulties that may arise unexpectedly such as nature calls. You cannot afford the baby to get agitated and look that way in the photographs. Also, diapers can look a bit odd in pictures, so try to focus on other things about the baby. Props look very good around babies and as a photographer one must try to be as creative and innovative with props as possible. This grabs the interest of babies as well as makes the picture look real.

Natural light looks best on babies’ skin and sometimes, parents or siblings could be included too, in the frame. While is not always the point to capture the baby’s reaction to everything around it, it can be very interesting sometimes to see how exactly the baby responds to a certain object or a certain activity around it. It adds life to the baby’s eyes and these are things which every photographer looks out for, while capturing. New-born reminds us of soft, fragile and tender, and newborn photographyshould reflect just that.
